When I was a child in Toronto in the 50s and already attending "Sunday School," my parents gave me the option of going to Hebrew School as well. What with Sunday School, regular school, and music lessons, I decided enough was enough, and I said no thank you. After running away from Judaism and returning to the fold some 30 years later, I wanted to learn Hebrew. Over the years, I studied Hebrew calligraphy, and loved the feel of making the letters. I still do! I started several Hebrew classes over the years, but either I quit or the teachers quit. And each time I would be starting again with the Aleph Bet.

Then one day, while playing a word game online, I saw your ad, and sent off an inquiry. I was totally amazed that someone called me from Israel within just a few minutes! Your ad was actually to study Yiddish, which is another language I would like to learn, but in talking to your representative, I decided to study Biblical Hebrew. Why? So that I can have the Bat Mitzvah that I never had as a kid! I am currently 63 years old - only 50 years late!!!!!

I have been studying with Hana Rotman (whose name I don't see on your teacher list above) for approximately 6 weeks now, and I love it. As I have signed up for a year, I don't have to worry about the teacher dropping out, and I know I won't either. Hana is very patient, kind, gentle, is a very good teacher, and is very motivated to be sure we understand.

We were originally 5 or 6 students, but after the first couple or three weeks, the class dwindled to 2 students. But that's perfect for me. Sometimes, the other student isn't there and then it's one-on-one. I am so happy that the class wasn't cancelled because there weren't enough students.

It's a lot of work, and I find it quite difficult, but it's also wonderful, all of a sudden, after years of reciting prayers in shul, to know what I am saying and be able to read the Hebrew instead of the transliterations!

I am also constantly amazed by the technology - to be able to see and hear each other all over the world, and to be able to read and write on each others' computers is simply mind-boggling! I am very pleased with the calibre of teaching and the materials received. And I am FINALLY able to envision the day when I will have my Bat Mitzvah! Thank you eTeacher!
