Meaning of the term "day"

Is there a difference the meaning of the word "day" that is mentioned in Bereishis pertaining to the days of creation, to the term "in the day" that Hashem spoke to Adam when He said, "in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die."

Meaning of the term "day"

Just a comment from me. God also said: "In dying, you will die". My limited understanding of genetics is that our cells replicate, but the quality of what is replicated degrades continuously until our constitution is too frail to sustain life and we actually die. So dying begins at conception, when the first cell divides and creates a corrupted copy, and the degradation continues until the final day of lives. Is that what God meant? God cursed the replication mechanism from the moment that Adam ate of the forbidden fruit. The corruption itself wasn't as bad as it is today, which is why the first generations were able to live such long lives (900+ years). I'd love to know what others think.

"day" of Adam's death

One thing I learned which rang true for me (I cannot recall where or when) was (1) on the day that Adam sinned he of course died spiritually, since he then was cast from God's presence, curses and a plan of redemption was set into motion.

(2) As to how Adam lived so long, Ps. 90:4 says "A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night." All the first people died--physically--in their 900th year, just shy of their 1000th birthday. In God's timeline, they did indeed die "on they day they ate of it."

Hope this helps.

Meaning of "Day"

Is there a difference in the Hebrew meaning of the word "day", used to define the separate days of creation in Bereishis, to the meaning of "in the day" that Hashem spoke to Adam also in this same book when He said, "in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die."

Is God really of Jewish origin?

Is God really of Jewish origin

God is not of Jewish origin, (Gen 1:1 Bereshith Bara Elohim...) Out of nothing He created everything including man. He is outside time or matter, He is not timelocked in a place like Earth.

However, II Cor 4:6
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

In the sovereign will of God(Elohim, Jehovah, Adonai), He reaches down to man and by doing so, the glory of God is manifested in the face of Jesus Christ(of Jewish origin).

Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

Is God Jewish

John 1:1 says In the begining was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God..

John 1:14 says And the Word Was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory as of the only beggotten of the Father)full of grace and truth.

Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

Matthew 1:1-23 traces the generation and birth of Jesus Christ,..

the fact that God "took-on" the form of man through Jesus Christ..I would say "YES"...

Is God really of Jewish origin?

We read in Gen 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" hence to be "Jewish" in the sense of culture was a creation involving man not something that existed before hand. The answer to your question is no.

Re: Is GOD truly of Jewish origin?

GOD as the Creator of all things that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible (Collossians 1:16) does not have an origin. Therefore, the question of GOD's earthly origin does not arise. I do not think that there is any person, culture, civilisation or school of thought that can give a history of GOD's origin. If there is any attempt at it, it will most likely be false and misleading. I conclude that GOD is not of Jewish or any traceable origin.

smile !!!!

Hab:3:3: God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.

Origin of God

Fantastic answer Pastor. God has no beginning or ending, from everlasting
to everlasting He is God. He is all encompassing, the Alpha and the Omega. Although we are afforded some insight into The Almighty, we still know very little. The Apostle Paul reminds us that, in our present state, we see through a glass that is opaque but in time to come, that glass will become clearer and our comprehension of the Divine will co sequently become clearer.

The Jews tries to narrow down God to fit their culture and way of life, Michael Angelo painted Jesus with blue eyes and with European features. Why can't we realise that while we can muck up some sort of picture and image of Jesus as he was in the form of man....God the Father, who is one with the son and visa versa is a different matter completely.

Let's continue to trust by faith because soon and very soon we are going to see our Lord, Saviour and King.

The G-d Man Relationship

Hi Gary,
I agree and look forward to the return of the Messiah. The day of His coming would be incomprehensibly wonderful and glorious - a day in which we will all be humbled and judged, and (by grace) forgiven; without which there is no hope for any man.

BUT I DO NOT THINK THAT THE JEWS, as a people, have tried to 'narrow G-d down." Surely we read in Scripture that G-d introduced himself to a series of chosen men. This is the G-d in whom we believe. The G-d of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, who revealed himself even to Moses and seventy elders on Mt Sinai! Who walked with Enoch and instructed Noah etc. Yes, some people in some cultures try to narrow Him down, but He is, to quote a wonderful hymn "in light inaccessible hid from our eyes." If any nation on earth understands this, the Jews do, I believe.
